Have an Emergency Electrician Handy for These Situations

Blog

The importance of an emergency electrician cannot be overemphasized. They are professionals who are available on short notice to fix emergency electrical situations in the home. We may not be thinking about encountering a problem with electricity on our properties, but emergencies do happen. For example, what will you do when you start to notice smoke coming out of your electrical appliances, or loose wires in your electric sockets?

Be prepared for such situations by having an electrician handy. Here are several situations that should prompt you to call an emergency electrician right away.

Outlets producing smoke

In some situations, you may notice that appliances plugged into certain outlets are producing smoke. A smoking outlet is often a sign of wires melting behind the walls. This can present a significant risk to you and your property if not attended to immediately.

The first thing you should do is to unplug all appliances from that outlet and call an emergency electrician near you.

Loose electrical wires

During bad weather such as floods and hurricanes, the wiring in your home may become loose and get in contact with water. If you notice any wet wires on your premises, don't try to address the problem yourself. You should be aware that water and electricity make a risky combination. Leave that to emergency electricians to resolve as soon as possible.

Loose wires are most likely to be experienced in outdoor areas such as garages, front/back porches or light bulbs hanging from the roof.

When your electricity goes off

Electrical wiring problems in your home can cause the electricity to go off completely. If you notice that your home is the only one in the neighborhood with no electricity, you may be having a wiring issue.

As we continue to become more reliant on electronic devices, it can be very inconveniencing to deal with no power within the home. It is therefore a good idea to contact an emergency plumber immediately to diagnose the problem.

A melting smell

You should also rely on your sense of smell in addition to sight. In some cases, high electric current may be causing wires to melt or appliances to slowly break down.

If you notice any smell of melting wires or burning plastic, contact an emergency electrician as soon as you can. Switch of the power in that particular area to reduce the risk of an electric fire.
